FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do you determine who wins the individual matchups?

  • If both competitors complete the same number of obstacles (in sequence), competitor with faster time wins.
  • If both competitors make mistakes, competitor with more obstacles completed (in sequence) before failure wins.
  • If both competitors fail on the same obstacle, the competitor that completed the previous obstacle faster will determine the winner.
  • If both competitors fail on the first obstacle, it is designated a draw.
How many points can a team earn?
  • There is the potential for a total of 6 points per week (5-points individual and 1-point team relay).
How do you determine who wins the team relay?
  • If both teams make mistakes, team with more obstacles completed (in total) wins.
  • If both teams complete (or fail) the same number of obstacles, team with faster time wins, after any penalties for failed obstacle(s) are assessed.
  • Obstacle time penalties will be identified by referee in advance of team relay race.
How do you determine playoff seeds?
  • Each team plays a total of 10 matches. Based on points earned through the season, teams are seeded 1-6 (most points to least). Ties will be decided based on overall records.
What happens if there is a tie in the playoffs?
  • Both teams will re-run the relay course for a 7th point. Runners can run the same obstacle or different obstacle at coach’s discretion.
Who & how are the courses determined?
  • Danny Adair, The Referee, will be in charge of designing a course each week. We will try to keep the course up for the duration of the week so athletes have availability to practice. Some courses may be Ninja vs Ninja format, others will be traditional format.
Who runs first?
  • Home team (team listed second on the schedule) gets to decide which team runs first for the entire matchup. The team that runs first gets to determine the order in which competitors run. The team relay always runs last.
What happens if a competitor is absent?
  • If one team member is absent, alternative teammates will take their place for individual run, and a different teammate will take their place for the team relay. Substitutions must be of closest skill level and approved by referee.
  • In the event 2 or more, team members are absent, the team must forfeit, or substitute players from the practice team on that same day/time. Substitute players must be of equal skill and approved by referee.
How do practices work?
  • Teams with practices have the opportunity to demo the course for the match of their time slot. Practice space is then limited to areas of the gym not involved in the course.
  • Competitors are limited to practicing during their time slot only. Competitors may stay to watch and cheer during other matches, but are asked to not play on any obstacles as they do not have designated supervision, and there is potential for advantage.
  • Courses will be set up on a weekly basis and participants are welcome to come to open sessions and practices obstacles independently.
How long are matches?
  • Length of matches can vary based on obstacles. We try to keep matches at about an hour. In the event they end early, participants will have redemption time on the obstacles.
